things I want to buy

1. That nice black jacket (or brown, pero I'm still thinking about it) which will replace my very big and overused Strains jacket.

2. A fossil watch. (A technomarine watch sana, pero, asa!)

3. That small easel you use for book reading.

4. Barongs for the office. I've always worn shirts. It's time to invest. May ROI pa yan!

5. New leather shoes.

6. A new shirt.

7. Badminton shoes, a new racket, and a badminton bag. But I think I'm going to have to commit to playing weekly first.

8. A second pair of razors for the office.

9. Sneakers.

10. An evil, evil book. Mwahaha!

Nothing wrong with AVG Update

I panicked a bit tonight cause for the second night in a row, my AVG Update, well, wouldn't update. I reinstalled it already and ran spybot and ad-aware, but it still didn't want to update. Googled the net and found that other users were experiencing the same thing.

No need to worry folks. Nothing wrong with your systems. AVG's server must just be bogged down.

Well, at least that's the general census as of now.

Comet crusher

NASA has launched a probe that is set to have a collision course with a comet. Imagine that. Sounds like the start of a movie.

More here.

Nokia 6670

I wanted this phone, but I think they're not going to sell it in the Philippines. Sayang!

It's supposed to be the smarter cousin of the 7610. No frills, but full of substance. It's also quite square (no pun intended).

Mmm

This is possibly the saddest song.

Comfortable

John Mayer

I just remembered that time at the market

Snuck up behind me and jumped on my shopping cart

And rode down isle five

You looked behind you to smile back at me

Crashed into a rack full of magazines

They asked us if we could leave

Can't remember what went wrong last September

Though I’m sure you'd remind me if you had to

Our love was

Comfortable and

So broken in

I sleep with this new girl I’m still getting used to

My friends all approve say she’s gonna be good for you

They throw me high fives

She says the bible is all that she reads

And prefers that I not use profanity

Your mouth was so dirty

Life of the party

And she swears that she's artsy

But you could distinguish

Miles from Coltrane

Our love was

Comfortable and

So broken in

She's perfect

So flawless

Or so they say

She thinks I can't see the smile that she’s faking

And poses for pictures that aren't being taken

I loved you

Grey sweat pants

No makeup

So perfect

Our love was

Comfortable and

So broken in

She's perfect

So flawless

I'm not impressed

I want you back

Jeepney

Bumabaa ako sa Jeepney

Kung saan tayo dati’y magkatabi

Magkahalik ang pisngi nating dalawa

Nating dalawa

Panyo mo sa aking bulsa

Ang amoy mo’y naroon parin

Ang tawa nating humahalay

Sa init nating dalawa

At ngayo’y wala na..

(wala na)

ikaw ay lumayo na..

(lumayo na)

naalala ko ang mga gabing

nakahiga sa ilalaim ng kalawakan

naalala ko ang mga gabing

magkatabi sa ulan

ang kulay ng iyong ngiti

at tikwas ng iyong buhok

ang lambot ng iyong labi

iyong labi

kahit anino mo sa malayo

ay nais masulyapan

ang tawa nating humahalay

sa lamig

subali’t ngayo’y wala na

(wala na)

ikaw ay lumayo na

(lumayo na)

naalala ko ang mga gabing

nakahiga sa ilalaim ng kalawakan

naalala ko ang mga gabing

magkatabi sa ulan

Oh, Elektra!

Elektra is a must-not-miss movie. It comes out in the US this month. I'm not sure when it's showing here. As if Jennifer Garner isn't a good enough reason to watch a movie, Garner in tight red leather with supposedly amazing martial arts/fight scenes (not to mention those close ups) means that only queers would want to miss this movie. Lol. I think that this is another of those big screen only movies too.

Watch the first five minutes of the movie at Yahoo! Movies.

Superman 5 casts Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane

Warner Bros has found their Lois Lane. Reliable sources say Kate Bosworth will be Superman's love interest and the Daily Planet's feisty reporter. Also rumored to have screentested: Elisha Cuthbert, Claire Danes and Keri Russell--all believed to have come close to winning the role. Bosworth joins a growing cast of new-comers believed to be Shaun Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor and Brandon Routh as Superman.

Thank God for Jet

They've been around for quite some time so I'm a bit late on this discovery, but regardless, Jet is now a mainstay on my playlist. I've actually been hearing their songs on the radio but I haven't been paying attention to them because I was too into a r&b/hiphop mode. The song that got my attention though (thank God) was look what you've done. I looked them up and found their other released singles, all of which I liked.

As of today, I removed all the songs from my playlist (and when I say playlist I mean my realplayer playlist on my portable) which was full of wishful sentimental crap (among other things) and have now gone for a more rock-centric playlist.

Some bands in my list: Jet, Phantom Planet, Maroon 5, with bits of Weezer, Gavin DeGraw, and Rage Against the Machine. Good enough, eh?

In focus: Jet

Everyone talks about rock these days, the problem is, they forget about the roll. How Keith Richards- who made this comment about post 90's rock music- must love Jet. They rock like there's no tomorrow yet they also roll like the greats of yesterday.

More from their website.

things that influenced my year

1. Finding out that Nanay (my beloved grandmother who I share a room with) had bone cancer and tuberculosis.

- It was hard. I didn't know where to place myself. Should I have tried to distance myself because I couldn't bear the pain of watching her in pain? Or should I have made the most out of the time left with her? The emotional attachment I have with her is strong. I love her. It was heartbreaking.

2. My blurty, my LJ and my blog - from just becoming a fad, to merely updating O and other friends about my life, writing in my blurty during late lonely and depressing saturday nights at home at the attic, trying to run away from seeing my lola in pain...it made all of it more bearable and less lonesome.

3. My theo and philo classes - although i have to admit i got really low scores for both...it was a bit insightful and it fueled my mind to be rational and patient despite trying times.

4. DDI practicum with RD - a peek into Human Resources Consulting. ;) Meeting nice and inspiring people made me see what I could be and what I wanted to be in the future + the fact that I became a lot closer to RD because of our everyday lunches, surfing escapades and OCness on the library which was therapeutic.

5. the TNT core '04 and pre-ORSEM, ORSEM itself - it was a learning experience again. many memories...many friendships and realizations. It's not about the prestige that you do your job or you take a position. like what i read somewhere...the position does not make a leader, the leader makes the position. humbling experience

6. being part of the PSYCHE EB and becoming the HR head - many issues within myself that stemmed from this decision. there came a point I really wanted to quit...but as always..martyr ako eh..i stuck to it...but seriously...I don't have any regrets =) despite the frustrations. it's not in the immediate results...it's in the process. I love my HR peeps also =) mikey and his blockmates. grateful for them.

7. finding out about something I was totally clueless about..when it was right under my nose. ang manhid ko! both good and bad - made me feel awkward again..but this time I think I've become a bit more mature in handling awkward stuff...I'm glad we're still friends. I'm touched with the way he feels

8. having a shaky relationship with 'Chinky' and our talks at Gesu and the e-mails and letters...I think he's the first person, I admittedly told everybody I liked (haha ang neneng ko talaga...) and he's the first person who liked me that I ended up liking more than I expected..but in the end it didn't work out. I got hurt but I don't want to dwell on it. I need closure...but I'm grateful for the fun memories we've had. I'll always cherish those...

9. stuff that happened in the family after my lola passed away - my two sisters were bothered. an encounter with paranormal stuff. i don't want to talk about this...but it made me closer to my faith.and other family issues...i'm glad it made us closer...

10. sincere, deep and insightful conversations with people...i love when this happens. i love meeting new friends...new STrainers =)

Speaker Screen

In a novel move, Japanese mobile network operator NTT DoCoMo today introduced the world's first mobile phone to contain a flat panel display which also functions as a speaker, the 2G mova N506iS. Based on technology from UK based New Transducers, the flat panel speaker emits sound by sending vibrations throughout the entire display panel, allowing the user to hear the person on the other end by placing an ear anywhere on the panel.

The N506iS also includes a 180-degree display swivel feature as well as button navigation enabling telephoning, e-mailing and browsing after the handset has been opened, rotated and then closed again.

Cool keyboard

I want to get the new Nokia wireless keyboard. It would look good with a new phone. *wink*

Out of Roads

I just ran out of roads again

Don’t know where to turn

I started counting stars again

Then I lost my way

I just ran out of time again

Will I ever learn?

To stop my chase of hours again

Only to learn I’ve lost the day

The last thing I need is to hear

This whisper in the wind

The last thing I want is this voice

That rises from within

I’ll need to go home soon, I know

But maybe tomorrow, not now

When the last thing I need here and now

Is this lasting need for You

I’ve been rushing out of rooms again

Too afraid to stay

I’ve been dreaming of some rainbow’s end

But the colors melt away

Should my heart be like an open door?

Helpless to the storm

Permit your wind to touch my soul

Only to leave this aching song

The last thing I need is to hear

This whisper in the wind

The last thing I want is this voice

That rises from within

I’ll need to go home soon, I know

But maybe tomorrow, not now

When the last thing I need here and now

Is this lasting need for You

The one thing I need is to hear

Your whisper in the wind

The one thing I want is Your voice

That rises from within

I need to go home soon, to You

Won’t wait for tomorrow, right now

For the one thing I need here and now

Is this haunting need for You

This haunting need for You

Angel

Gotta find me an angel

To fly away with me

Gotta find me an angel

Who will set me free

My heart is without a home

I don't want to be alone

Gotta find me an angel

In my life

Too long have I loved

So unattached within

So much that I learn

That I need somebody so

Still I'll just go on

Hoping that I'll find someone

Gotta find me an angel in my life

I know there must be someone, someone for me

I've lived too long without the love of someone

And there's no misery, like the misery I feel in me

Gotta find me an angel in my life

She'll be there, now don't you worry

Keep looking now just keep looking

Simply Red

A love that moves

“May you never lose your enthusiasm at any moment for the rest of your life: it’s your greatest strength, intent on the final victory. You cannot let it slip through your fingers just because as time passes we have to face some small and necessary defeats.”

Chinchilla

This is a chinchilla. I think I saw it on Conan the other week. It's a damn cute, furry, little animal. It's parang in between being a hamster and a cat. Do you know what it is? Have you ever heard about it? Right. That's why I've posted it here.

Lessons from the tsunami

Published on page A13 of the December 29, 2004 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

A TELLTALE sign of an oncoming tsunami, experts say, is the seawater receding and exposing the ocean floor. This phenomenon is so unusual that it will usually draw townsfolk to the beach front, and a number might even venture farther out to "harvest" the fish and other marine life stranded on the sandy bottom. Seconds or minutes later, a "wall of water" will come rushing back in, catching the people off-guard. And that is why, authorities on disasters claim, tsunamis kill and maim so many people.

The oncoming waves are also so high and powerful that they will knock down any structures in its path, and flood areas that lie kilometers inland. Amateur video footage of the destruction wrought in Phuket, Thailand, in India and Sri Lanka, showed the floodwaters knocking down huts and buildings, sweeping away cars and buses and carrying off hapless folks.

By far the most chilling news for Filipinos, in the aftermath of what has to be one of the world's biggest natural disasters, is that the Philippines is "prone to tsunamis," as the headline of a front-page story said. In fact, said the report, two temblors, mild and unrelated to the earthquake just off the coast of Sumatra, hit the country just before dawn Sunday. The archipelago is located in the earthquake belt, we are told, and our long coastline (one of the longest in the world) makes us vulnerable to any killer waves created by shifting tectonic plates.

Click here for the rest of the article.

What to do during an earthquake

from the American Red Cross website:

Know What to Do When the Shaking Begins
  • DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON! Move only a few steps to a nearby safe place. Stay indoors until the shaking stops and you're sure it's safe to exit. Stay away from windows. In a high-rise building, expect the fire alarms and sprinklers to go off during a quake.
  • If you are in bed, hold on and stay there, protecting your head with a pillow.
  • If you are outdoors, find a clear spot away from buildings, trees, and power lines. Drop to the ground.
  • If you are in a car, slow down and drive to a clear place (as described above). Stay in the car until the shaking stops.

Identify What to Do After the Shaking Stops

  • Check yourself for injuries. Protect yourself from further danger by putting on long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy shoes, and work gloves.
  • Check others for injuries. Give first aid for serious injuries.
  • Look for and extinguish small fires. Eliminate fire hazards. Turn off the gas if you smell gas or think it's leaking. (Remember, only a professional should turn it back on.)
  • Listen to the radio for instructions.
  • Expect aftershocks. Each time you feel one, DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON!
  • Inspect your home for damage. Get everyone out if your home is unsafe.
  • Use the telephone only to report life-threatening emergencies.

Top Ten Things

I'm starting the year with a new blog (oh yeah!) called Top Ten. It's kinda like what they had in High Fidelity (thanks Raqs) which by the way is one of my all time favorite movies. Anyway, para it's more fun, I'm asking all my blogspot blogger friends to join that blog. We can have a common topic every week or so which everyone can contribute in. It'll be neat! Hehe. Anyone interested?
