Love Song For No One

Staying home alone on a Friday

Flat on the floor looking back

On old love

Or lack thereof

After all the crushes are faded

And all my wishful thinking was wrong

I'm jaded

I hate it

I'm tired of being alone

So hurry up and get here

So tired of being alone

So hurry up and get here

Searching all my days just to find you

I'm not sure who I'm looking for

I'll know it

When I see you

Until then, I'll hide in my bedroom

Staying up all night just to write

A love song for no one

I'm tired of being alone

So hurry up and get here

So tired of being alone

So hurry up and get here

I could have met you in a sandbox

I could have passed you on the sidewalk

Could I have missed my chance

And watched you walk away?

I'm tired of being alone

So hurry up and get here

So tired of being alone

So hurry up and get here

You'll be so good

You'll be so good for me

Hypergraphia

Treat me doctor, I'm sick

Well, not really. But this term has the potential to become as popular as being OC (no, not orange county but obsessive compulsive) at least for those of us who like—or rather, love to write. I was watching the replay of Dateline NBC this morning and got amused. Hypergraphia is a mental disease that makes a person obsessively want to write. Of course, it refers to an extreme case that affects less than 1% of the population, but varieties of this exist among many of us. I believe it does so exist in me. (Check that: not in its pure definition; again it's like being OC.)

Anyway, this Dateline episode featured this woman, Alice Weaver Flaherty, who had the disease. I was a bit saddened that she had the condition, but a part of me was also amazed at it and even envious. (then I wonder if I'll ever stop this blog) She writes so much that she even writes on her skin when there's no paper available. When it's really bad, the text reaches the top of her arms. She's even bought a special marker for shower tiles that will wash away with water so that she can jot down any idea she may have when she's taking a bath. Good idea, eh? I know many of us get our best ideas when we're in the bathroom.

Writing that much, the subject was bound to write a book. And she did. Fittingly, her first book touches a bit on her condition. Titled The Midnight Disease: The Drive to Write, Writer's Block, and the Creative Brain the book talks more about unleashing creativitymore than it does about the disease. (Don't quote me on that by the way, just click the link to Amazon) Flaherty claims that there are also many famous people in history who had the disease. Although she may acknowledge her state as a disorder, I have to believe that a bigger part of her sees it as a gift.

Here's an article about hypergraphia from The Chronicle of Higher Education website for further reading.

New diet on the block

First there was Atkins, then South Beach, and now there's the Hamptons diet.

I've a bad feeling it's just milking this diet craze.

Why is it called Hamptons? Quoted from their website: "The Hamptons Diet was formulated with the belief that millions of people want to be thin, rich, and famous—like many of my clientèle (who live in the hamptons)". Ooohhh, how sinful!!

Anyway, it's too early to say anything about this new diet. Testimonials I think is the best gauge as to how good a product is. Of course, you have to be asking the right people.

Skin care?

What's there to care about?

At least until you realize your skin's not perfect. I was surfing the net when the TV churned out another Nivea for Men ad (on the Etc channel). I decided to check out the site and I was impressed. I like how Nivea for Men is marketing their product in the Philippines. Their big launch in Baguio with all these manly men dilute any guy's guy fear of becoming a girly man when you use their products. The metrosexual lifestyle is proving to be popular among my peers. More and more guys are actually caring about their looks. Not surprising for Filipinos, I say. Being a very romantic people, we naturally want to have whatever edge we can have to impress the other sex.

Anyway, while browsing the Nivea site I realized I don't know anything about skin care. A friend tried to explain it to me, but it didn't work. What's strained skin? What are moisturizers for? Why are there oil control moisturizers? What are skin types? What's there to care about on your face aside from hair?

Oh well, I guess that proves that I am not a metrosexual (not that it's a bad thing). My friend Louie however (yes, a special shoutout to you) has been using Nivea products way before they launched this Nivea for Men brand. Aha!

If any of you guys are confused on what you are, take this metrosexual test from ESPN.com (is that a manly enough site for you?)

Chocolate is passion

Not to be taken in large quantities, experts warn

I am a chocolate person. Right now, I'm craving for my mom's chocolate cake so much that I had to write something about chocolate.

Snickers is my all time favorite chocolate bar. One of the sweetest things anyone's ever done for me was to give me a Snickers bar when I was having a bad day. The gesture is still very much appreciated.

Just this month, I discovered an alternative to Snickers. Surprisingly—though I'm sure I've tasted it before—Babyruth tastes pleasantly similar to Snickers. It was good news for me since we had a whole pack of it (check that: had) but of course Babyruth will never be Snickers; Nestle is not Mars.

Also worth mentioning is the seldom seen, but very delicious Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

"(I'll) tear you up in little pieces, swallow you like Reese's pieces.. come on girl you know I need it"

Sorry, I just had to sing that. (These are the times by Dru Hill)

Oh yes, chocolate is passion. I won't go into the obvious and numerous connections between the two, but I will leave you with this all too common excerpt from Discovery Health.

Documentaries

It's so cool how so many documentaries are doing well in Hollywood lately. I've already seen Imelda and got confused. Super Size Me is going to show here in September. And I have no idea if Fahrenheit 9/11 will ever be shown here. We are trying to patch up relations with America. Well, maybe we'll get to see it if Kerry wins.

Talking to myself

An answer to my VB.H question

As it turns out—after finishing the scan on my computer and checking the infected file—I got it from Internet Explorer. The file was XTRAY~1.exe and was stored in my temporary internet files folder. Okay, I feel better now. I could have avoided the problem by setting up a third party firewall like ZoneAlarm.

Bottom line is, it got to me through IE. It's either some idiot used my computer, or it was just really sneaky and my defenses weren't up—understandably.

VB.H

My office computer got hit by VB.h this morning. The net tells me that it's a backdoor, but if it's a Trojan, how the heck did it get into my pc? I don't open weird attachments, I don't download weird programs, but that thing still got to me. Okay, I don't use third party firewalls in the office because no one else here knows how to use it and we're big users of shared folders. And no, no one put anything in my shared. I'm one of the most paranoid people I know with regards to computer (data) safety, but it still got to me. Weird.

It hasn't really done anything to my system and I haven't really felt it, but it just disturbs me that it got there.

Anyway, if anyone has more info about this please let me know and help me have a little more peace of mind.

Motorola Gaining Ground

or at least giving good marketing effort

Been seeing a lot of ads for the Motorola e398 lately. Not being a popular mobile model, I naturally didn't pay much attention to it. But looking at the e398 on paper—and setting aside my biases—it seems like it deserves a second look.

Also upcoming from Motorola is the limited edition, Ferrari inspired Pininfarina i833. Sounds like they're getting as desperate as Fila. Does anyone here buy Fila gear? Yup, I thought so.

Not for the NBA?

The best don't always make it

Sarunas Jasikevicius has been the best pointguard in the Athens games, but why doesn't he play in the NBA? This article from NBA.com gives us the answers.

As dorky as Dirk, but is he as good?

Everybody Hurts

When the day is long and the night,

the night is yours alone,

When you're sure you've had enough

of this life, well hang on

Don't let yourself go,

everybody cries

and everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong.

Now it's time to sing along

When your day is night alone,

(hold on, hold on)

If you feel like letting go,

(hold on)

When you think you've had too much

of this life, well hang on

'Cause everybody hurts.

Take comfort in your friends

Everybody hurts.

Don't throw your hand.

Oh, no.

Don't throw your hand

If you feel like you're alone,

no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life,

the days and nights are long,

When you think you've had too much

of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,

Everybody cries.

And everybody hurts sometimes

And everybody hurts sometimes.

So, hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on,

hold on, hold on,

hold on, hold on

Everybody hurts.

You are not alone

Down with MLM organizations

Down with misinformation

I try not to be too vocal about my extreme frustration over MLM organizations and recruiters because I have friends who are into it. But the misinformation has to stop somewhere. I'm sorry to anyone who may get offended.

I've been trying to write an article about the cons that MLM recruiters hide (ahem, scam) but I'm so emotionally attached to the topic that I can't go beyond two paragraphs without losing my objectiveness.

Probably my biggest pet peeve in life is misinformation. The way that MLM recruiters operate is full of misinformation—from the time they invite you to a meeting/interview to the pseudo learning/training sessions you have once you become a member. It's the same the world over for so many years now. Our country has been plagued by misinformation of the masses for far too long already. Politics and showbizness have hurt our people so many times. The average Filipino succumbs to false promises so easily. It hurts so much when their hope is shattered. MLM is full of lies. It misleads and it blinds. And yes, recruiters are taught to do so.

I am saddened that supposed mature and intellectual people still fall for scams. The money is good, they might rationalize. The hasty things people do for money. If they give in, in no time they'll be throwing lines like "I'm just trying to help you" or "I'm doing this for you", like you actually owe them for wasting your time. Puta, these people have been using these same lines for years. Why won't people fucking catch up.

Once again, I'm sorry for those who may get offended, but there are far more people who have been hurt by this and remaining quiet will do them injustice.

I will give an update when I finish my article on MLM organizations.

Disclaimer: My sources humble me by stating that there are legit MLM organizations. Legit ones focus on marketing their products instead of RECRUITING people.

I'm just playing. He did well, he will grow, and he will make us proud one day.

Yao, what's up?

I want to get to watch the Athens Basketball semis. I don't know the schedule of the games though since Sky Cable put channel 4 before channel 2. I'm not really a China fan, but I want China to do good in the games. Probably for the simple reason that they're Asians (though maybe for them we still are very different). I also like Yao Ming because he's such a dork. In contrast, Tim Duncan is boring. Yes, he's better than Yao but he has no drama in his persona. He's just a fundamentals guy. You know what, he should play for Utah! Bagay siya dun!

Cannonball

Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say what's going on

Still a little bit of your ghost your witness
Still a little bit of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer each day
Still I can't say what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball

Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer to me
So close that I can't see what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannon

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to cry
So come on courage
Teach me to be shy
Cause it's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna scare her
It's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna lose
It's not hard to grow
When you know that you just don't know

Has anyone ever heard of this competition? Sounds weird, but apparently a Filipina won 2nd runner up. I tried to check out the site of the competition, but it was down. And btw, Ms. Philippines also won the most number of internet votes. Yeah, we always win that category.

WTF: Virtual Mobile Girlfriend?

In a country that's probably second to Japan in being mobile crazy, will this ever pick up? It's not immoral naman or anything so conservative groups won't complain. But then again, we're not as timid and nerdy as the Japanese are. (not to be discriminatory. that is a generalization. also, being timid or nerdy aren't necessarily bad characteristics.)

Goodies

[Ciara]

My Goodies, My Goodies, My Goodies

Not my goodies!

[Verse 1: Petey Pablo]

I got a sick reputation for handlin broads

All I need is me a few seconds or more.

And in my rap

Tell valet to bring my 'Lac

And I ain't comin back

So you can put a car right there.

I'm the truth

And ain't got nothin' to prove.

An you can ask anybody

Cuz they seen me do it.

Barracades, I run right through 'em

I'm used to 'em.

Throw all the dirt you want it's no use.

You still won't have a pinup in a fabulous room

On her back pickin' out baskets of fruit.

(I love you boo)

Yeah freak and Petey love you too.

Ha Ha

You know how I do..

[Hook: Ciara]

You may look at me and think that I'm

Just a younger girl

But I'm not just a younger girl.

Baby this is what I'm lookin' for:

Sexy, independent, down to spend it type that's gettin' his dough

I'm not bein too dramatic that's the way I gotta have it.

[Chorus: Ciara]

I bet you want the goodies.

Bet you thought about it.

Got you all hot and bothered.

Mayb' cuz I talk about it.

Lookin for the goodies

Keep on lookin' cuz they stay in the jar

Oh-oh Oh-oh Oh-oh Oh-oh

[Verse 2: Ciara]

Just because you drive a Benz

I'm not goin home with you.

You won't get no nookie or the cookies

I'm no rookie.

And still I'm

Sexy, independent

I ain't wit' it so you already know.

I'm not bein too dramatic that's the way I gotta have it

You think you're slick

Tryna hit

But I'm not dumb

I'm not bein too dramatic it's just how I gotta have it

[Chorus]

[Verse 3: Petey Pablo]

So damn hot but so young.

Still got milk on ya tongue

Slow down lil one

And you ain't got it all

Hey shawty

You think you bad but you ain't bad

I'll show you what bad is.

Bad is when you capable of beatin' the baddest.

I been workin' at it since I came to this planet

And I ain't quite there yet but I'm gettin' better at it.

Matter of fact,

Lemme tell it to you one mo' again

All I got to do is tell a girl who I am (Petey!)

Ain't naa chick in here dat I can't have

Bada boom bada bam ba bam!

[Verse 4: Ciara]

You're insinuating that I'm hot

But these goodies boy are not

Just for any of the many men that's tryna get on top.

No you can't call me later

And I don't want your number.

I'm not changin' stories

Just respect the play I'm callin'.

[Chorus (2X)]

Uh...Yeah...Uh...Yeah Uh Uh Uh

Childhood memories

Me and my dad were talking over dinner about computers and such when we remembered our first ever home computer. Like most of you, our first PC was an IBM XT clone.

Oohhh yeaah!!!

It had less than 100kb of memory, a green and white screen, two 5.25" floppy disk drives, and a killer hard drive—with 2 megabytes baby!!! Of course, since I had a hard disk before I even knew how to divide, I considered myself a cool kid. Too bad there weren't too many computer kids when I was growing up. I could have used those ego boosts.

If only I had an add-on math processor, imagine the things I could have done. lol.

My home PC is lethargic. It's a 736 Mhz P3 with 384 MB of ram running XP. Sure I have DSL and a 17" monitor, but doesn't everyone have those these days? I have 2 hard disks with a combined capacity of 60 GB, but have less than 7 GB free. I probably have another 60 GB of data stored in my CDs though. My setup may not be perfect, but it does what it has to do. I can't complain.

...well, not too much at least. As long as I have DSL, my GeForce4, my CD writer, and a functioning sound card, I'll survive.

Blog Worthy

Ateneo gets beaten by La Salle.

From the get go, it seemed like bad news for the Eagles. Captain Huk was smoking hot, scoring a truck load of points in the opening minutes. It was downhill from there. Midway through the first quarter, La Salle even replaced their entire starting five and we still weren't able to catch up. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears as the lead slowly ballooned to over 30 points before the half ended.

We tried to catch up in the second half. We could have. We should have. And no, I won't credit La Salle's defense or offense for our loss. We weren't able to catch up because of our own faults. There were so many turnovers. I wouldn't say that we lacked heart though. Okay, maybe we did in the midst of the first half. But to be able to shrink the margin from more than 30 to a single digit lead definitely took heart. Perhaps, it was just too little, too late. Maybe some of the players got intimidated by their fears. Maybe they weren't mature enough for that level of play. But hey whatever reasons there could have been, it's okay. There's no need for excuses. It was still one big fight.

Check that: I'm not saying that La Salle doesn't deserve the win. They do. They played a hell of a game. They scored, they defended, they had heart. I'm just saying that we could have caught up and La Salle had no part in stopping us from catching up. It was our own fault.

Anyway, that's just another game in the eternity of Ateneo and La Salle games. And I suppose that's also another one-sided game summary from a true blue fan.

One Big Fight!!!

It's your love story

Saw Now That I Have You with officemates last Thursday. Pretty good movie. The cinematography, direction, and story line were Star Cinema quality (meaning good enough to not make me shudder). The actors also looked good together.

The story was pretty interesting. My officemates thought that some of the situations were too extreme, while I saw them as typical. The movie was successful at showing both sides of the male-female relationship. It showed the differences of how the two sexes think. For example, guys don't understand why it's their fault that they really don't have time to report to their significant others, and girls don't get why guys are so insensitive. Ahh, classic dilemma.

My officemates were so moved by the film that we all had to have a debriefing session after the movie. The message of the film was basic; though not so obvious to a lot of people. Love isn't perfect, nor is it easy. Loving as a decision means accepting the other's faults and limitations.

Mainstream

It's sad when good bands sell out: Barbie's Cradle, True Faith, Rivermaya. Actually, True Faith's Nescafe add was okay, kasi in good taste naman. BC's Nescafe ad is too much. It doesn't sound like they'd actually write a song like that. Rivermaya's ka-pizza is way over. That's just too much for me. Sell out na talaga yan. Maybe they've reached a point where there's no turning back anymore sort of like what happened to Parokya who actually admit to selling out.

Parokya is so kalog that they can get away with it. It's not art for them, it's just about having fun. Having money in your pocket is fun. They don't take things seriously and just do what they want. Irony of it of course, is that they end up having more control over their music. They end up dictating what they should or should not sound like. Or maybe, it's just because Parokya is that damn special that they can't do anything wrong. People will love them no matter what—because people accept them for who they are. Is it okay for them to sell out because they've lost it anyway, or are they more mature because of all the exposure they've received? Or maybe , they really are in a class of their own. The more I think about it, the more it seems like it's the latter.

I was immersed in the underground scene a long, long time ago. It was the time when LSFM was the pop music station and LA 105.9 was the source for alternative music. It was the time when bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Faith no more, Alice in chains, and STP were starting. Locally, Rivermaya was still headed by Bamboo, Ultraelectromagneticpop was the shiznit, Afterimage was cool for all the kids, and the Juan De La Cruz band was back in fashion. That was when being a rocker was being a rocker. Those were the good old days. Check that: when I say rock, I don't mean glam rock. I mean alternative rock.

My brother—who currently has a band without a clear musical genre—doesn't appreciate early 90's rock music. I'd think that he's more into the underground scene than I am, but sometimes I know more about it than he does.

On a side note, NU isn't what it used to be. It gets downright annoying at times. The perfect station for pseudo-rockers trying to find an identity. Unfortunately, unkown to them, they're individuality is as commercial as German Moreno. More on radio stations in some other post.

Anyway, what does the underground scene look like these days? Of course I wouldn't know cause I'm not hard core anymore. But the funny thing about the scene is how the people immersed in it diss bands who go mainstream. For them it's a bad thing. It's the death of the soul of the band. Yeah, as if bands really exist just for the sake of creating music. All bands want to get mainstream eventually. Dissing is just crab mentality. Yes, it does in one way or another hurt the essence of a band's music, but that's the way it is.

Some of my friends are with me on disliking bands that become uso. Baduy na kasi. Their songs get overplayed, everyone starts singing misheard lyrics, and they start to get too commercialized. It's a fact of life. Good ol' bands start to suck, dozens of good up-and-coming bands emerge, several make an impact, a few actually make it to the top 40 charts, and the cycle starts again.

Don't fight the system. Even those who "fight the system", milk it to buy their multi-million dollar cars and homes. Don't fight the system, but don't be sheep. Keep your individuality; appreciate music as an artform and not as bubblegum pop—at least most of the time.

6230 vs 7610

This morning while reading the paper, I had second thoughts re: 6230 vs 7610. Most of my research has been for the 6230 vs k700i dilemma so I decided to take another look at the battle between these two Nokia phones.

After browsing the net yet once more, I stick to my earlier posted decision. Considered were the following:

a) 7610 has no FM radio
b) Nokia .3 MP cameras are supposedly "good enough"
c) 6230 will fit better in my pocket (considering I already have a T2 in there too)
d) The MMC card functionality.
e) Reported slow PIM synchronization of 7610—though as I have mentioned, I don't really want a phone with Symbian OS.

For the size aspect, I realized that the 7610 is actually shorter than the 6230 albeit wider.

Yes, the lifeblog software, 1.2 MP camera (MPs are always overstated), large screen, funky design, and sure it being a smart phone are tempting, but I can live without them.

6230i?

Nope. There is no 6230i.

Found this article on the web. Once again, only fools believe everything they see on the web. (So what does that say about people who check for web fakes on the web?) Anyway, the author was just playing—or making a fool of all the 6230/Nokia fans. Shame on mobile-review! That's why I don't trust that site.

It's settled: N6230

After being offered a terrific discount on any phone I want, I've finally chosen to get the Nokia 6230. I chose this phone over the SE k700i and the Nokia 7610.

The following were my considerations for the phone I was getting:
1) Has to have a "good enough" camera.
2) Has to be powerful enough to satisfy my needs for the next 4 years.
3) Has expandable memory using a standard MMC card (not a mini-MMC card).
4) Has Bluetooth.
5) Has good looks (small, sleek, seductive).
6) Not a smart phone.

Originally, I was only choosing between the N 6230 and the SE k700i. The 7610 got into the picture because it was priced just a little above the two and has a 1.3 MP camera (the other two only have a current industry standard .3 MP camera). I would have picked the 7610 but: a) it's too big b) the camera lens has no cover c) it looks like a fun teeny phone.

Between the k700i and the 6230, I considered: a) my affinity for Nokia phones (my first phone was actually a Philips Genie and I used a Siemens phone before; I have been exposed to other phones) b) the "slow" SE interface and the high # of key strokes to make before the write text screen c) the menu screen with those little pictures; I don't like those.

Both phones score high on looks.

The k700i's dual face design is something that I've been drooling over ever since SE previewed the phone to the public. It also has a flash for the camera. It's screen is bigger than the 6230's. And obviously, it's not a Nokia phone (which is a good thing).

But in the end, I had to consider that I was going to use my phone in tandem with my Tungsten T2. I don't need a big screen since my T2's screen will suffice. I am shying away from the slow interface of the SE. And damnit, I have to admit that I too have an affinity for Nokia phones. I'm such a lamb.

One small warning for Tungsten users though. Palm's phonelink doesn't have a driver for the 6230 yet!! You can work around it a bit, but it's not perfect. That really sucks because I plan on using my palm to text. After a lot of angry requests from T2/6230 users though, palm has promised to come up with the driver by September. I hope they keep their word.

So there, after a lot of thinking and surveying the market, I've finally made a choice. I can't wait to get my hands on my 6230. At last, my T2 won't have to look bad paired with my lousy entry level Nokia phone. Don't get me wrong, but they really don't look good together.

Something More

Beyond my eyes can see,

There must be something more

Beneath the surface rush of things

There’s something else in store

Beyond this daily strife, there must be more to life

An underlying rhyme in things

I must have known before

Before the seasons changed,

Before I grew too wise

I watched the passing clouds

In search of meaning in the skies

I read between the lines

But the verses lost their rhymes

And though the truth has long been told,

I’m still waiting for a sign

Where are You, You whom I seek to know?

Are you the one I’m looking for?

Show your face

Why don’t you break your silence now?

Take the stormy seas within me

Name these shadows trapped inside me

Claim this lost and frightened child you see

In me

Beyond my eyes can see,

There must be something more

Beneath the surface rush of things

There’s something else in store

Beyond this daily strife, there must be more to life

An underlying rhyme in things

I must have known before

I bear my private pains

I go the extra mile

Will you be there beyond this road,

To meet me with your smile?

Before my very eyes you’ll shed your last disguise

And then I’ll realize I need nothing more

That the face I’ll recognize

Dream On

I was wondering what was up with the dream team this year. Do they have a lack of talent? Is the average age—and maturity—affecting their game? Are they just a bunch of kids on a field trip to the Athens games? Or is the rest of the world really just embracing basketball and producing hella good players?

I love the NBA's foreign players (which incidentaly is why I started becoming a Mavericks fan two years ago). I mean, to be shipped to the NBA must mean that you're really good. Ha, just look at what's happening in Athens.

Highest scorers in order: Yao Ming (22 ppg), Carlos Arroyo (21.7 ppg), Pau Gasol (21 ppg), Manu Ginobili (19.3 ppg)

Iverson comes next with 16 ppg. Is that good for the dream team cause at least someone's scoring? Or is it an omen since it's Iverson scoring?

I am such a big fan of Google, I'd buy stock from them if I could. When it comes to search engines, it's Google for me hands down. They are definitely king (I even have the Google toolbar and the Google search box in my customized start page). But I have to ask, can Google diversify their services enough to increase their profits? Will it do as well as Yahoo? Is there even room for another Yahoo! on the internet? I don't think there is, but then again we'll never know what's up Google's sleeves.

Get a mini-stop

When I first started working—still being a cheapskate—I would try to eat at mini-stop whenever I could. I was amused by the little nook. More or less, it's just your typical convenience store; their packed meals are reasonably priced and there's a small area for eating. What's amazing about mini-stop is that there's a branch in every street in the Ortigas commercial center. I'm not sure how their business is doing, but their positioning is great. Para silang mga kabuti.

Anyway, if you're a big enough mini-stop fanatic to want to actually own your own stop, why not get your own mini-stop franchise.

Sourgraping?

Is the term sourgraping only commonly used by Filipinos? I googled the word sourgraping and found that 7 out of the first 10 search results were sites written by Filipinos. 2 of the remaining 3 results were by Asians. The rest of the matches were predominantly Pinoy sites as well. I am wondering if the use of "sourgraping" is distinctly ours much like the term Comfort Room.

XP SP2

Windows XP Service Pack 2 is due this month. The update will (hopefully) give us XP users more protection specifically from network vulnerabilities.

It has been reported though that SP2 will cause some problems with certain network dependent applications. Microsoft has released a list of applications that will be affected by SP2.

Now these reports confuse me. I've already heard of people having problems with their Bluetooth networks because they supposedly already installed SP2. What's going on here? Ano yun, pirated? Hehe. Or maybe they're just bits of SP2 since SP2 won't come as one big download but will be released by Microsoft in chunks. Well, whatever the case may be, I just hope that you all have your auto-updates turned on.

Update: Microsoft has actually released SP2 to IT Managers already but the SP2 version for us normal people is still to follow.

Arroyo: On Fire!

Carlos Arroyo was hot against America's dream(on) team. I hope he continues to shine when the NBA season returns albeit he still plays for the Jazz—the sleepiest team in the NBA.

Chocolate vs Green Tea

I've been trying to avoid eating chocolate after dinner and often resort to green tea instead—it refreshes and resets the palette which makes me not want to eat anything anymore. This can get hard sometimes since I'm a chocolate lover. But as it turns out, chocolate has some of the same health benefits found in green tea. It may even have more of them. Oh my.

Mighty Katipunan Tandangs

A crushing defeat for the Zebras of espanya
by Ranier Palanca

The Zebras of Espanya became "tapang kabayo" yesterday afternoon at the clutches of the Mighty Tandangs of Katipunan. The Tandangs, whose winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Recto-Based Barangay Tanods last Thursday, methodically disected the win-challenged Zebras right from the entrance of the Pasig Sports Conflicts.

Lead by their prolific guard Latte Norio, named for his caffeine like intensity, Arteneo jumped to an early 4-2 deficit silencing the "jokla" heckler at the courtside. The two teams runned (poetic license) and gunned the entire first half with no semblance of something called a half-court set, with the Tandangs passing the ball like crazy and the Zebras' star player Nueva Misscarra taking charge of not-passing and not-shooting the ball.

The game was close right upto the third quarter but Maxene Magalona was closer so all that could have been written here til that quarter was lost for all eternity.

The fourth quarter saw the Tandangs leading by 24 as it turned out to be a practice session for the
Tandangs' rookies as Jobe Nkmejjfgbksdnblnlf, Freddie Aguilar and Yuri Esquenita played with their ball, playing all kinds of sports like football, soccer and volleyball. Aguilar hovered around the basket turning away unrequited shots while Jobe held on to the ball and held on to the ball and held on to the ball to end what was by then a 15 point, 77-62, Arteneo win.

Top Honors went to Bajie Nagrosario for his all around effort of staying near the basket to catch Latte's passes.

Arteneo will be tested next Sunday by their archrivals, the Di-Nagdasal Manunumpits, 4pm at the Bayoneta Coliseum.

Damn. There really are blue roosters!

Burning Car

You can call me mean, but I still found this amusing. I can't imagine how a car stuck in metro traffic can suddenly burst into flames. Isn't that weird? I can just imagine the little KIA PRIDE and its frightened owner. :))

I've heard stories of girls who panicked like hell because they thought that their car was on fire —when the smoke coming out of the hood was really because of an overheating engine.

This is not the car I am talking about.

Salanga Prize

The thought of writing a children's book has crossed my mind recently. The deadline for this is at the end of September pa. I doubt anything will happen with this, but I am thinking about it.

Can I come up with a story in a month? It's a kid's book naman eh. I bet I can. Let's see what happens.

Anyone have an idea for a nice story? :p
